MONTPELIER (May 30, 2001) — The Vermont Governor's Council on Physical Fitness And Sports has been awarded the State Council of the Year award from the National Association for Health and Fitness (NAHF), previously known as the National Association of Governor's Councils on Physical Fitness and Sports.
The Award was presented at the NAHF national meeting in Tempe, Arizona on May 4, 2001 at that organization's annual Gold Star Awards Dinner.
The award came as a result of a nomination submitted by Governor's Council vice chair Michael Feulner in recognition of ten Volunteers from the Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge and State Agency Race held every May in Montpelier.
The Eighteenth Annual Corporate Cup Challenge took place on May 17.
According to Feulner, "The Selection Committee was impressed with the significant contributions to the advancement of physical fitness, health and sports of the Corporate Cup and the Vermont Governor's Council's initiatives and programs."
Feulner, who is Director of the Corporate Cup race and Vice Chair of the Governor's Council, added, "The committee was strongly convinced that these contributions positively affected the well being of Vermonters and their communities."
Feulner noted that the Award is the first for the Vermont Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
The mission of the Vermont Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports is to promote health and wellness for all people living in Vermont at all fitness and ability levels. The Council, created in 1981 by Governor Richard Snelling, is supported by the Vermont Department of Health.
