Council Member Nomination Process
The process for nominating individuals for Council membership is as follows:
- A Nominee is submitted to the Chairperson of the Nominating Committee using the Candidate form for Council membership. Sponsors should be able to personally and/or professionally recommend all candidates for Council membership. Sponsors do not have to be Council members.
- A letter is sent to the nominee soliciting their resume along with information about the Council.
- The Nominating Committee chairperson discusses the nominee with the Nominating Committee. Based on those discussions and a consensus being reached, the Nominating Committee chairperson communicates to the sponsor of the Nominee as well as to the nominee as to whether or not the nomination process will continue.
- If the process continues, a representative of the Nominating Committee conducts an interview with the Nominee. The Nominating Committee then decides whether or not to recommend the Nominee for Council membership. The Nominating Committee chairperson will communicate the same to the sponsor and the nominee within two weeks.
- As a result of the Nominating Committee interviews, the Nominating Committee will decide whether or not to submit the Nominee to the Council and the Council shall submit to the Governor who has final authority. If the decision is yes, then the nomination will take place as per the bylaws. A letter of acceptance will be sent to the nominee. If the decision is no, the nominee will be contacted by the chairperson. That decision will also be shared with the full Council so that all are informed of the "no" decision and why.
- This process will take approximately 30 days.

Nomination Process
- When a name of a candidate is submitted, a cover letter along with the following materials should be sent to the candidate:
- Mission
- Statement of Responsibilities
- What is the Governors Council of Physical Fitness and Sports
- Brochure (when it is ready)
- Candidate Form for Council Membership
- The Nominating Committee reviews the Candidate Form and a member of the Nominating Committee conducts an interview with the candidate.
- If the Nominating Committee a form letter is sent to the candidate.
- If the candidate is approved, the entire Council, either at an upcoming Council meeting or via mail, puts the candidates nomination forth for vote.
- A form letter is sent to the candidate announcing her/his membership.
Orientation Process
- The Nominating Committee welcomes the new member by phone and provides the name of their Council mentor.
- The Council Secretary sends the new council member a 3-ring binder of council materials with the date of the next Council meeting.
- The new members mentor meets to discuss the potential role on the new Council member.
