On March 27, the Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and the Worksite Wellness Conference Committee presented the first Business Leadership Award to an individual who consistently supports worksite wellness in Vermont.
This new award was inspired by the enthusiastic work of Tom Clavelle, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Engelbeth Construction and a 7-year member of the Council.
Tom’s job at Engelberth doesn’t center on wellness, but wellbeing is clearly Tom’s passion. Since joining ECI in 1993 he has supported innovative company wellness programs and encouraged employee health screenings, physical therapy, and insurance discounts for participation. Tom role models health and fitness and his coworkers frequently see him running, working out at the onsite gym, and riding his bicycle.
Appointed to the Council in 2007, Tom eagerly participates in Council worksite wellness efforts. Each year he works with the application review team to improve the application and determine awards. He collaborates with the conference committee to develop educational sessions, plan the awards ceremony, and serve as a panelist or moderator. He also works closely with the Council treasurer to manage financial records and fiscal processes. Tom volunteers at the council’s Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge and State Agency Race and provides ECI space and resources for Council meetings.
Tom’s zeal for worksite wellness, motivational role modeling, generous service, and strong leadership inspired creation of this award to honor an individual who propels worksite wellness forward and raises the bar for other employers in sustaining a culture of wellbeing in the workplace. We are delighted to present the first Business Leadership Award to Tom Clavelle.

Tom is frequently spotted exercising in Engelberth Construction Inc’s onsite gym or heading outside for a run. He inspires his co-workers and colleagues to be active.
